Notorious NSCN (K-YA) cadre arrested by security forces in Assam

A self-styled major and an armed cadre of banned militant outfit NSCN (K-YA), Ram Pradhan, was arrested by security forces from Tinsukia in Assam on Saturday evening. The arrest was made during a joint operation by columns of Assam Rifles and Lekhapani Police.
“SS Maj Ram Pradhan is a notorious cadre of NSCN KYA active since 2007 involved in extortion racket, illegal coal mining and operating alongwith SS Lt Col Makam Hachang, Ops group Cdr and SS Maj Gen Hundang Hakun of NSCN KYA in Tinsukia Dist & TCL region,” an Assam Rifles press statement said.
He has multiple cases lodged against him in PS Lekhapani and PS Margherita. His notorious activities have cost the community in general with many hardships and threats over time. He was responsible for threatening coal mine owners, illegal coal mining, recruitment for underground groups, extortion activities. Ground sources confirmed that he will be visit his native place in Tipong for celebrating Diwali, the statement further said.
“At around 7pm the suspect was identified while entering into a house and was challenged by one of the stop party. However, the suspect jumped out the window and tried to flee on foot and was rummaging in a thick undergrowth searching for something. He was chased, overpowered and apprehended. On preliminary questioning it was revealed that the suspect was SS Maj Ram Pradhan @Ram Nivar of NSCN-KYA, a kingpin in the extortion racket in the Upper Assam. A detailed interrogation was conducted on the spot and search of the area was conducted after which an auto rifle was recovered,” the statement said.
Incriminating documents including extortion details were also recovered from the cadre.
The cadre has been handed over to Lekhapani police station after due documentation and medical check up. Joint Interrogation is underway.
