NPP working President Marcuise N Marak dismissed Meghalaya BJP leader Bernard Marak’s accusations of central projects not being implemented

Meghalaya NPP’s Working President Marcuise N Marak said that he feels there are no strong candidates to oppose NPP in Garo Hills in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the state.

Asked about which party will pose a stronger challenge to NPP, Congress or BJP, he said, “If you remember the MLA election results of 2023 NPP won 18 seats, 2 or 3 areas where we lost, the margin was very small. So, I am so sorry to say that I don’t see any strong opponent in Garo Hills.”

Asked about the threat posed by Deborah Marak of Congress to Agatha Sangma (NPP) in the Tura Parliamentary seat as in the last Lok Sabha polls in 2019. the victory margin of Sangma was very thin against Marak, Marcuise said, “That time Deborah’s popularity was also there but now the situation is different.”

“If you go around in the state, in Garo Hills, there are lots of central projects going on such as PMGSY, such projects definitely has MP’s hand, these schemes greatly benefit the people of Garo Hills, so of course she (Agatha Sangma) will win again,” he added.

He dismissed state BJP leader Bernard Marak’s accusations of central projects not being implemented asking him to point out the specific projects which he feels has not been executed.

Marak also does not believe that incidents such as the violence in Tura a few months back will have any impact on the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
