The three-year term of Ernest Mawrie as the state president has ended

Meghalaya BJP president Ernest Mawrie said that elections for the next president of the party in Meghalaya will be held only after the elections for the National President is held.

The term of BJP National President JP Nadda has been extended till June 2024 in view of the Lok Sabha polls next year which means elections for the state president will be held only after the polls.

The three year term of Mawrie as the state president has ended.

“My term ended this year. During a meeting of the National Executive Committee held in Delhi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced the extension of JP Nadda’s term till June 24, 2024. Until and unless the centre announces the election for the national president we cannot hold elections. BJP MLA Hek’s statement is wrong,” Mawrie said.

Mawrie was responding to reporters’ questions after BJP MLA AL Hek had earlier said that the state BJP elections are due. Mawrie said it was Hek’s personal opinion and not the party’s official stance.
