Additionally, selected students will be exempted from appearing for the Common Admission Test (CAT) for entry into this program.
In a landmark step towards interdisciplinary education, the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Mizoram, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Visakhapatnam. This pioneering partnership introduces a unique, five-year integrated Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) program, a first in the region.
The collaboration aims to provide NIT Mizoram students with a dual degree option that combines technical and business acumen, aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020’s vision for flexible learning pathways. Students enrolled in this program will begin MBA coursework alongside their regular B.Tech curriculum, allowing them to complete the first year of their MBA during their engineering studies. Additionally, selected students will be exempted from appearing for the Common Admission Test (CAT) for entry into this program.
Alongside the integrated degree, the MoU provides NIT Mizoram students the opportunity to earn a Diploma in Business Management (DBM) from IIM Visakhapatnam while completing their B.Tech, enhancing their managerial skills to complement their engineering expertise.
Prof. S. Sundar, Director of NIT Mizoram, commended the partnership, stating that it would create “prospects for bright minds” at NIT Mizoram, fostering a new generation of “Engineering Managers” equipped to tackle global challenges with both technical and managerial expertise. Prof. M. Chandrasekhar, Director of IIM Visakhapatnam, also expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, emphasizing that NIT Mizoram students will gain access to “world-class intellectual, infrastructural, and research resources” at IIM Visakhapatnam.
The MoU signing ceremony, held on Thursday, November 7, was attended by senior faculty and officials from both institutions, including Prof. M. Shameem Jawed, Chairperson (PGPMCI) of IIM Visakhapatnam, and Prof. Ajmal Koya Pulikkal, Dean (Faculty Welfare) of NIT Mizoram. Following the event, representatives from both institutes met with Mizoram’s Chief Minister, Lalduhoma, and Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, to discuss the collaboration’s anticipated benefits for students and explore additional avenues for academic and research partnerships.
