Mizoram Assembly Speaker Pushes For Mizo Language Inclusion In 8th Schedule

Mizoram Assembly Speaker Lalbiakzama called for support from the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and other officials to include the Mizo language in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution, emphasising its importance in preserving cultural identity.

Speaking at the 85th All India Presiding Officers’ Conference, in Patna, Lalbiakzama highlighted India’s unity in diversity, stressing that the nation’s strength lies in its rich cultural and linguistic diversity.

He praised India as the “Mother of Democracy” and underscored the importance of recognising regional languages like Mizo.

He further emphasized that the inclusion of Mizo in the 8th Schedule would help preserve the cultural identity of the Mizo people and align with India’s ethos of promoting linguistic and cultural heritage.

He praised the Constitution for fostering unity amid diversity, calling it a cornerstone for safeguarding the nation’s languages, cultures, and religious freedoms.
