The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed the review petition filed by Akshay Kumar Singh, one of the four men convicted in the 2012 Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case. The apex court convicted the accused and awarded death sentence.
The hearing on Singh’s review plea was delayed by a day on Tuesday after Chief Justice of India SA Bobde recused himself from hearing the review plea. CJI SA Bobde recused himself from the case because his nephew had represented Nirbhaya in a court earlier.
The court order said all other contentions have been considered. It added that flaws in the investigation have been considered by the trial court, affirmed by High court.
The Supreme Court has rejected the review petition filed by Akshay Kumar Singh. Akshay had sought clemency arguing life in Delhi is anyway becoming short due to rising air and water pollution.
On July 9 last year, the apex court had dismissed the review pleas filed by the other three convicts in the case, saying no grounds have been made out by them for review of the 2017 verdict.
The four convicts in the gang rape-and-murder case have been sentenced to death.
After the SC rejected the review plea of the gangrape convict, Asha Devi, mother of the 2012 Delhi gangrape victim, said she is very happy and welcomes the decision.
