A nine-member NSCN-IM delegation left for New Delhi on Friday for a critical round of talks with the Union Government that could help in clearing a few major hurdles that have delayed the signing of the long awaited Naga Peace Accord.
Those leaving for the national capital today include top leaders of the group like VS Atem and RH Raising. NSCN-IM supremo and general secretary Thuingaleng Muivah is already in Delhi, having flown there in a chartered aircraft on July 20, ostensibly for his medical treatment.
A section of the media in Nagaland has reported that the NSCN-IM may demand the replacement of State Governor RN Ravi as the Naga peace interlocutor and has already suggested a few names. Speculations about a possible Govt-NSCN-IM talks resuming to clear hurdles gained ground soon after Muivah flew in to the national capital.
While the NSCN-IM team will be headed by Muivah himself, the Govt of India is going to be represented by top officials of the Union Home Ministry. Representatives from the Defence ministry and the Intelligence Bureau are also likely to be present at the meeting.
As per the latest inputs we are getting there may be no NSCN-IM and Government of India talks scheduled for this week, but a sitting is likely to be held early next week.
Meanwhile, as per reports, representatives of Assam, Manipur and Arunachal, parts of which the NSCN-IM claims are Naga areas, may also attend the meet.
