Was it a miracle or a serious negligence of medical professionals? A newborn allegedly declared dead by doctors of a private hospital was later found to be alive while his family was preparing for his funeral at a crematorium in Assam’s Cachar district today.
The incident has been reported from Rangirkhari area of Silchar in Cachar district.
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, the family of the newborn claimed that on Tuesday night, the pregnant lady was taken to the Silchar Civil Hospital for delivery. However, the doctors and the hospital authority advised the family to take the patient to a nearby private hospital at Rangirkhari for better treatment. At around 10 p.m., the lady delivered the baby boy at the private hospital. The doctor who was attending the patient said that the infant was not moving at all, so they kept the baby under observation, however even after over 8 hours, the infant was still not moving. So, the doctor thought the baby died before delivery and declared the baby dead and handed it over to his family along with the death certificate.
The family took the baby’s body to the Silchar crematorium for his last rites, and the baby started crying as soon as they unwrapped the baby.
The family rushed the baby to the hospital for treatment, where he is currently under treatment.
Angry with the entire incident, the family has demanded an investigation into the matter.
The hospital authority has said that the doctor declared the baby dead mistakenly in haste due to pressure from the family.
