NEIGRIHMS bags top honours in Kayakalp awards

Adding another feather to its cap, the North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Science (NEIGRIHMS), Shillong, after securing the third and second places in the ranking of Group B Hospitals and Institutions for public health facilities countrywide in 2016 and 17 respectively, has finally bagged the first place for the 2017-2018 Kayakalp awards.

Standing ahead of hospitals and Institutions like AIIMS Bhuneshwar, NIMHANS Bangalore and AIIMS Rishikesh which stood 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Government of India for the year 2017-2018 awarded the Kayakalp award to NEIGRIHMS and a cash prize of Rs 1,50,00,000(one crore and fifty lakh).

Director NEIGRIHMS Prof (Dr) D.M Thappa, said that the achievement is an exemplary example for the North East region and others to emulate. Meanwhile, the State Health Minister, AL Hek also expressed happiness on the achievement and observed that NE will excel further in the health sector if proper attention is given by the centre.

The Kayakalp awards felicitate Public Health Facilities for maintaining high standards of sanitation and hygiene. The Kayakalp scheme launched in 2015 covered 10 Central Government Institutions and District Hospitals in the year of launching. This year the scheme expanded coverage to 16 Central Government institutions including 6 new AIIMS and all Primary Health Centres (PHC) and Community Health Centres (CHC).
