The development has come after the TIPRA Motha delegation held a meeting with NEDA Convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma past midnight in Guwahati

NEDA Convenor and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has assured the six-member TIPRA Motha delegation led by Pradyot Kishore Debbarma that talks concerning the appointment of an interlocutor to discuss their demand for a “constitutional solution” will move forward.

The development has come after the TIPRA Motha delegation held a meeting with NEDA Convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma past midnight in Guwahati.

As per inputs the meeting started at 1 am and ended at 2.30 am.

Notably, the meeting comes amid the row over the delay in the appointment of an interlocutor to discuss the demands of the TIPRA Motha and find a constitutional solution to them.

It may be mentioned here that Pradyot Debbarma along with party president Bijoy Hrangkhawl, leader of opposition Animesh Debbarma, senior party leader Mevar Kumar Jamatia and two other party MLAs arrived in Guwahati last evening after NEDA Convenor Himanta Biswa Sarm invited Pradyot Debbarma for a meeting in Guwahati.

It may be mentioned here that Pradyot Debbarma had earlier this week threatened the Centre that he will fast unto death if the centre (Home Ministry) does not announce the name of the interlocutor on March 28, 2023.

His threat to Centre has come after according to Pradyot Debbarma, Centre had assured him that the interlocutor’s name would be announced on March 27, but no such announcement was made.

Yesterday talking to the media the TIPRA Motha chief said, “If the Government of India is not willing to appoint an interlocutor for talks concerning the TIPRA Motha’s demand seeking a ‘constitutional solution’ then the party which is an Opposition in Tripura also knows what role it can play as an opposition.”

” I have not asked anything for myself during my political journey so far. Whatever I have been demanding is for my Tiprasa people. If the government of India is not willing to declare the name of the interlocutor then TIPRA Motha which is in the Opposition in Tripura also knows what role it can play as an opposition,” he added.

Meanwhile, supporters of TIPRA Motha are waiting for the decision of Pradyot Debbarma and preparing to join him on his hunger strike.

Earlier, in his message to the Tiprasa people of the state, Pradyot Debbarma said, ” My dear Tiprasa people you have given much love and respect to me. I can not ditch you. If it requires me to go on a hunger strike from tomorrow till I breathe my last to make the Government of India listen to us and address our concerns I will do it.”

The TIPRA Motha chief further said that he loves Tiprasa people too and that he is ready to die for them.

” I love you all too. I am waiting. If by tomorrow no conclusion comes, I will fast unto death but will give you all something before dying,” he added.
