The National People’s Party today sounded the poll bugle in the national capital. Party MLAs from Meghalaya and Nagaland along with those from Arunachal Pradesh who recently joined the NPP among others attended the crucial meet held to chalk out the party’s strategy for the Lok Sabha polls next year.

Talking to media persons after the meet, NPP national president Conrad Sangma said all the state units of the party have expressed their desire to strengthen the party ahead of the Lok Sabha polls and to contest most seats in the Lok Sabha elections.

Apart from Meghalaya, where it is heading the coalition government, the party has its presence in Nagaland, Manipur and now Arunachal and not surprisingly it is trying to emerge as a major force in the Northeast.

Meanwhile, taking note on the ongoing impasse in Manipur, NPP national president Conrad Sangma appealed to protesters to maintain peace and calm.

The Meghalaya chief minister, whose party is in alliance with the BJP in Manipur, while expressing concern over the present crisis said the issue can be resolved only through dialogue.
