Nagaland: Judicial inquiry committee to probe Tuensang returnees transportation row

The Neiphiu Rio-led government has set up a three-member judicial inquiry committee to probe any violation of the standard operating procedure during the transportation of over 150 returnees to Tuensang

The Neiphiu Rio-led government has set up a three-member judicial inquiry committee to probe any violation of the standard operating procedure during the transportation of over 150 returnees to Tuensang from Kohima before their test results were out. The committee has been given 15 days’ time to submit its report.

COVID-19 empowered committee has been reconstituted with Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio himself leading the committee as the chairman, while Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton is the co-chairman.

Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom will be the spokesperson and Chief Secretary Temjen Toy is the member secretary.

It may be mentioned that over 150 returnees were sent to Tuensang by a senior health official despite the state cabinet deciding

The Eastern Nagaland Peoples Organisation had taken exception to the move and sought immediate action against the concerned officials.

Meanwhile, Principal Secretary Health and Family welfare, Menukhol John has been transferred. Neiphiu Rio, however, refused to comment on the transfer.

Rio, meanwhile, informed that those returnees who have tested negative will be immediately moved out to make space for new returnees.
