Nagaland: 5 teachers in Govt High School issued show-cause notice

The DC wrote to the Principal Director of school education, on Tuesday, wherein he stated that he conducted the surprise inspection on August 22.

In a surprise visit made by the Deputy Commissioner of Longleng, Dharam Raj, yesterday at Government High School Sakshi under Longleng district in Nagaland, 5 teachers at GHS Sakshi, were either found absent from work or using proxy teachers.

Following the discovery, the DC wrote to the Principal Director of school education, on Tuesday, wherein he stated that he conducted the surprise inspection on August 22.

Meanwhile, it has also come to light that a school teacher reportedly working as Principal at a College in Dimapur was one of the staff members of Government High School Sakshi.

In this regard, Principal Director of School education Thavaseelan K said that show-cause notices have been served to the 5 erring teachers of GHS Sakshi in Longleng.

Thavaseelan also added that the 5 teachers have reported to the office yesterday, to clarify the issue and the department would be initiating further courses of action. On proxy principal in a college in Dimapur, he informed that the department is coordinating with the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur to establish facts and send the report to the department.

Thavaseelan also disclosed that cases of proxy teachers in the Longleng district seemed to be on a higher side and the department has also detected about 20 cases of proxy teachers from across the state.

He also informed that the department of School education is writing to all the Deputy Commissioners seeking assistance in identifying and weeding out cases of proxy teachers from their respective districts.

To curb the system of proxy teachers in the state, Thavaseelan said, as part of the World Bank project there is going to be a system called the “Teachers Attendance Monitoring system” which will be deployed in all the schools later this year or early next year.
