Murmu-Sinha face-off for president: Brisk voting underway in Northeast

Voting is underway in the Northeast where respective Chief Ministers of the Northeastern states and MLAs have cast their votes.

Brisk voting is underway across India to elect the 15th President of the country. The battle is between NDA’s Droupadi Murmu and Opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha.

Meanwhile, voting is underway in the Northeast where respective Chief Ministers of the Northeastern states and MLAs have cast their votes.

In Assam, the voting is being held in the Central Hall of the Assembly house. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma cast his vote just a short while back. Besides, over 80 MLAs have already cast their votes so far.

Meanwhile, brisk voting is also being witnessed in Tripura for the Presidential polls. Chief Minister Manik Saha, deputy chief minister Jishnu Debbarma and other MLAs cast their votes in the election.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh also cast his vote in the Manipur Assembly House. Meanwhile, former chief minister and CLP leader O Ibobi Singh who cast his vote affirmed full confidence in opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha.

Voting for the Presidential elections was seen in Itanagar as well. MLAs have been coming to the state assembly house since morning hours and are casting their polls.

Likewise, in Sikkim, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang was among the early voters. MLAs could be seen turning up in large numbers to cast their votes.

Meanwhile, voting for the presidential polls are also underway in Nagaland, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, UDA chairman TR Zeliang, Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton also cast their vote.

Notably, a total of 776 MPs and 4 thousand 33 MLAs across the country will take part in the voting process which would conclude at 5 PM.

Worth mentioning here that Draupadi Murmu already has an easy edge over her opponent Yashwant Sinha.

If elected, Murmu will be India’s first tribal women president. While Droupadi Murmu backed by the ruling NDA seems to be headed for a comfortable win, joint opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha still has his hopes high.

One has to now wait for the result which will be declared on July 21. The swearing-in will be held on July 25.
