Tragedy strikes on I-Day: Mother, two children drown in a pond in Assam

It is still not clear if the mother took her children to the pond to commit suicide or it was just an accident

Amid the Independence Day celebrations, a pall of gloom descended on Biswanath area of Assam as the news of a mother and her two young children drowning in a pond came in.

The children were aged one and half years and four years old. The lady has been identified as Mrinali Orang.

It is not yet clear if the mother took her children to the pond to commit suicide, as neighbours are claiming that a family feud was going on, or it was just an accident.

Police investigation has begun.
