Leaders of the Moran community in Arunachal Pradesh met Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Dibrugarh to thank him for the Assam government’s decision to grant Permanent Residence Certificates (PRCs) to Morans living in the frontier state.

Members of the Moran Students’ Union Arunachal Pradesh Committee, Moran Women Association, and Moran Union Parishad personally conveyed their appreciation to the Chief Minister, highlighting the importance of the decision for their community.

Chief Minister Sarma later shared the development on X, reaffirming that the Moran community, regardless of where they reside, shares an unbreakable bond with Assam. He assured them that the Assam government remains committed to their welfare and rights.

The decision to grant PRCs to Morans in Arunachal Pradesh was taken in the last Assam cabinet meeting. Many see this as a crucial move, especially with the Assam Assembly elections approaching next year. The Moran community has a significant presence on both sides of the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, making them an influential group in the political landscape.

This decision also holds significance as the Morans are among the six communities in Assam demanding Scheduled Tribe (ST) status. Granting PRCs is viewed as a step toward addressing their longstanding demands while also shaping political dynamics ahead of the elections.
