Lalrosanga also raised the issue of asylum seekers from Bangladesh and appealed to Goel to provide humanitarian assistance and respect the human rights of the refugees

Representatives of cadres of the erstwhile underground Mizo National Front/Army met the additional secretary for the ministry of home affairs (Northeast), Pijush Goel, in Delhi on Wednesday.

Lalrosanga informed Goel that though the Mizo Accord was the most successful agreement ever signed by the centre with militant groups, some of the conditions of the accord were yet to be fulfilled.
Housing assistance and settlement for the former militants still needed to be provided by the center, he said.

Lalrosanga also raised the issue of welcoming asylum seekers from Bangladesh and appealed to Goel to provide humanitarian assistance and respect the human rights of the refugees.

The team of former MNF cadres was accompanied by the lone Lok Sabha member from the state, C. Lalrosanga, in the meeting.

They were those who laid down arms and came overground in 1986 following the signing of the historic Mizo Accord between the centre and the erstwhile underground MNF on June 30, 1986.

The MHA official informed the MP that the matter of the refugee influx from Bangladesh’s Chittagong Hill Tracts had already been taken up with the Bangladesh government.
