The MKHC's letter to the ECI, sent on Tuesday, emphasizes that Sunday is the day of prayers for the majority of people of Mizoram and they spend the day praying

Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitute Committee (MKHC), a conglomerate of major church denomination leaders, has sent a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner of India, appealing for a change in the date for counting of votes.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) had, on Monday announced November 7 as the polling date and December 3, Sunday, as the date for counting of votes. But Sunday being a day of prayers for the Christians and Mizoram being a Christian dominated state, political parties and the MKHC are requesting the ECI to change the date to any other day but not Saturday or Sunday.
The ruling MNF and opposition parties ZPM and Congress too have opposed the date and written to ECI for a change.
“Sunday is a sacred day for the Christians and the church services are held in all towns and villages, refraining from secular and other business activities,” the letter said, adding, “Therefore we request you to change the date for counting of votes not to fall on Saturday or Sunday.”

This formal request to reschedule the vote counting date was jointly signed by the chairman of the MKHC, Rev. Dr. C. Chawnghmingliana, and the Secretary, Rev. R. Lalrinsanga.

Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) had on Tuesday sent a letter to the ECI to change.

The BJP state unit also appealed to the ECI to change the date of counting of votes and assign any other day.
The ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) and the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) also made the same appeal on Monday, after the central poll panel announced the schedule of elections for Mizoram.
