Former Mizoram minister and MNF MLA K Beichhua has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today, resigning from his position as MNF MLA. He was expelled from MNF earlier this year for being close to BJP while being in MNF.

During his joining ceremony, Nagaland’s Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton was also in attendance. Beichhua shared his reasons for joining the BJP, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nine-year leadership, which he believes has elevated India to a global superpower and led to significant economic growth. He noted that the BJP currently holds a strong presence in both central and northeastern politics and hopes this will continue for years to come.

Beichhua emphasized the central government’s dedication to the development of northeastern states and its concern for minority communities, particularly those residing in the six scheduled areas of the region. He expressed confidence that the BJP can bring about positive changes in India, which influenced his decision to join the party.

In addition, Beichhua shared important developments that the central government plans to declare Siaha district as an aspirational district, with a special allocation of Rs 35-50 crore for the Mizoram Autonomous District Council (MADC) in Siaha district. The Central government will take responsibility for Zoram Medical College, the state’s only medical college.

Beichhua resigned as Minister of State on December 12, 2022, a day after Chief Minister Zoramthanga asked him to do so and was expelled from the MNF on January 25 this year.

He was accused of being loyal to the BJP and instrumental in toppling the MNF-Congress coalition government in the Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC) and installation of the BJP government through the defection of some MNF members of the district council (MDCs) loyal to him.
