Mizoram elections passes off peacefully; sizeable Bru voters turnout for polls

Voting came to an end in Mizoram with 75 percent polling registered till 5 pm. The final turnout percentage, however, is yet to be ascertained.

Apart from this 40 all women polling stations were set up in the state. Significantly, only 3 poll code violations were reported from the state.

The highlight of the polls, meanwhile, was the high turnout of Bru voters who crossed over in thousands from Tripura to cast their votes at Kahnmun village in Mamit district.

Meanwhile, among the districts, the highest voters’ turnout was registered at Serchhip where 81 percent polling was recorded till 4 pm.

In Kolasib too, a high 77 percent voters’ turnout was registered. Aizawl, meanwhile, registered 65 percent voters’ turnout.

Briefing media persons after the end of voting, Mizoram CEO Ashish Kundra informed that 52 percent of the total eleven thousand nine hundred eighty seven Bru voters residing in 6 camps in Tripura exercised their franchise in Kahnmun.

Kundra also congratulated the civil society and the NGOs for smooth conduct of polls in the state. Kundra added that the polling has been peaceful in the state.

Over 70 percent of the 7.68 lakh voters in Mizoram exercised their franchise today. With the polls over, fate of 209 candidates has been sealed in the EVMs till December 11 which is result day.

As many as 40 companies of Central Armed Police Force were deployed for smooth conduct of polls in the state.
