Civil society organisations including the YMA are helping the Mizoram Police to find out the missing Assam Police personnel.

It is almost nearly 3 weeks and there is still no trace of Assam Police constable Sabin Nath who had gone missing from Mizoram since November 5, two days ahead of the day when the state went to polls.

However, the Mizoram Police with the help of civil society leaders, Young Mizo Association (YMA) members as well as the people are engaged in search operations to find the missing police personnel.
42-year-old Sabin Nath, an Assam Police constable, had gone missing from the post at Ngopa Middle School-II in Mizoram’s Saitual district on November 5.

As there is no breakthrough in the case till now, Saitual SP Pukhraj Kamal has informed that a reward of Rs. 20,000 has been announced for any information on the whereabouts of Constable Sabin Nath. The Saitual SP spoke exclusively to Northeast Live about the ongoing operations to find the missing Assam Police personnel.

SP Pukhraj Kamal informed, “There was an unfortunate incident on the 5th of this month where one person from Assam Police Battalion, went missing from Ngopa where he was deployed for election duty. As soon as we got the information about the incident immediately we formed teams and began searching in the localities. Since it was the time of elections also most of the police personnel were already deployed. Hence we had to take the help of local leaders also including the YMA, VDPs and all the villagers, who formed small teams and went out in the jungles, towards the bank of the rivers to find out the fellow.
We also checked the CCTV cameras which were installed in the town. We also took help of K9 squad which is available in Aizawl. We searched the entire area, but there was no success.
However, since we have been unable to find out the fellow we have circulated the message to all the police stations, to the checkposts, to the Bairabi railway station and to his family and nearby places where he could be found. We are still searching him and all the leaders of the YMA and local leaders are also helping us in finding that fellow. We also have announced for giving a cash reward to anyone who can provide us information about the missing police person.”
