The Meghalaya Government has decided to vaccinate its citizens falling between the age group of 18 to 44 years, free of cost. The decision comes at a time when the State is seeing a huge spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in the past few days.
Following a review meeting held at Shillong today, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong informed that the State Government has placed an order of 42,000 units of vaccine doses and all payments have been made.
He stated that once the vaccine arrives, aggressive vaccination for the population will begin.
Taking to Twitter, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma informed, “The Govt. of Meghalaya has paid the vaccination cost to the manufacturing company for 42,000 vaccines which will reach #Meghalaya in few days. Pleased to inform that the Govt. has decided to give free of cost vaccination to all eligible citizens.”
Meanwhile, the State recorded 339 new COVID-19 cases today while 204 patients have recovered from the disease.
Taking stock of the availability of essential commodities, Tynsong said that the state has enough stock of essential commodities.
“Government of India is kind enough to sanction additional allotment of rice under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) for month of May and June. Lifting of rice has just started and distribution will take place within this month,” said Tynsong.
