Meghalaya assembly speaker Metbah Lyngdoh on Tuesday admitted a ‘no-confidence motion’ moved against the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government by the Opposition Congress.

The motion, accusing the government of having failed on all fronts was submitted through the Commissioner and Secretary of the Assembly by the leader of the opposition, Mukul Sangma along with 10 other Congress MLAs.

Meanwhile, The Speaker, before admitting the motion, asked the opposition to raise at least 10 members in support of the motion expressing want of confidence in the council of ministers led by chief minister Conrad K Sangma.

Speaking to mediapersons, Chief minister Conrad Sangma said that the MDA ruling is ready to face the ‘no-confidence motion’ even as he added that a whip has been issued to all the MLA’s of the ruling to attend the session.

The Chief Minister further said that few ministers had tested positive and are now recovered have also been asked to attend the session tomorrow.

It may be mentioned that the Opposition moved the no-confidence motion alleging that the MDA government has failed on all fronts, particularly the failure to protect the interest of the state.

The Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) met after the assembly session to discuss the strategy for the ‘no confidence motion’ which is to be taken up tomorrow.
