Meghalaya: Ri-Bhoi DC initiates inquiry into hill-cutting in the area

Following numerous complaints of illegal earth-cutting leading to extensive destruction of hills in Ri Bhoi District, Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi Arpit Uphadhyaya has initiated inquiries into the matter, covering areas from Byrnihat to Khanapara within the district.

Addressing the media, DC Uphadhyaya stated that the District Administration has received multiple complaints regarding the unlawful destruction of hills through earth-cutting activities by certain individuals. Uphadhyaya emphasized the seriousness of the issue, noting its detrimental impact on the environment and air quality.

He further disclosed that a Magistrate has been appointed to spearhead the investigation, with a special committee formed to support the inquiry process.

Additionally, the Divisional Forest Officer of the Territorial Forest Department has been requested to provide relevant information and details. Uphadhyaya assured that formal reports on the matter will be forthcoming shortly.
