Meghalaya has reported six more COVID-19 positive cases after the first coronavirus patient from the state died on the wee hours of Wednesday.
As many as 6 more people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the hill state, while 6 more samples are being re-tested.
Among those who tested positive are family members of the 69-year-old doctor from Bethany hospital in Shillong who was tested positive on Monday and subsequently lost the battle to the virus in the wee hours of Wednesday.
The detection of 6 new cases in Meghalaya was confirmed by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma in his official twitter handle. Sangma also informed that apart from 6 more samples which are being re-tested, rest have tested negative.
“Of the 68 tested so far, 6 have come out positive who are all family members & helpers of the first #Covid19 positive case. 6 other cases are being retested. All the rest of the cases are negative,” Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma tweeted.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya reported its first COVID-19 death at 2.45 AM on Wednesday. The 69-year-old patient, who was a doctor at Shillong’s Bethany Hospital, had tested positive just a couple of days back.
The Bethany Hospital, where the patient was kept, has been completely sealed and the entire hospital staff still remain in quarantine.
It may be mentioned that health authorities are yet to disclose who could have been the carrier of the virus.
With the detection of 6 new cases contact tracing measures are being further stepped up especially in state capital Shillong.
