Meghalaya: Previous govt negligent in implementing ILP, says NPP MLA

National People’s Party (NPP) MLA SG Esmatur Mominin has accused the previous Congress-led Meghalaya United Alliance government of being negligent about the long-pending demand for implementation of the Inner Line

National People’s Party (NPP) MLA SG Esmatur Mominin has accused the previous Congress-led Meghalaya United Alliance government of being negligent about the long-pending demand for implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in the state.

The MLAs reaction comes in response to former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma’s charges of accusing the NPP of sleeping over the ILP and not pursuing the matter with the Centre.

Mominin said that the ILP issue is no longer a state but a central subject and added that the matter is being aggressively followed up by the state government.

He maintained that the then Mukul-led government could have easily implemented ILP in the state if they wanted.

“When Mukul was the chief minister, there was no necessity for the state to seek the approval of the Union Government to implement ILP and the state, with its own power, could have implemented ILP,” Mominin said.

The NPP leader vowed that the MDA government will implement ILP the moment Centre gives its nod.
