Reaping the best out of what the nature has bestowed in abundance and practiced for decades, the traditional way of healing in Meghalaya is all set to be streamlined with the state government trying to get all the traditional healers under one umbrella and backed by experts.

In this regard, Meghalaya Health Minister Al Hek on Wednesday had a meeting with doctors from the Ayush Department and a traditional healer at the state secretariat.

Talking to newspersons after the meeting, the Health Minister said that the state is rich in methods of traditional healing and there are a lot of people who are involved into it but are working individually out of which some are genuine and some are not.

He said that the government aims to integrate and get them to work in a professional manner and bring sustainability in a revenue model.

The Minister also said if this has to work, expertise from outside the state and the country is required and it should be promoted in the form of health tourism as is being done in Kerala and Thailand in a business module.

Pointing out that medicinal plants are found in abundance in the state, the Health Minister said that rampant felling of trees and forest fires are destroying the plants which have been used as medicines by the healers for decades now.

He further added that the government intends to get to the district levels, organise seminars, get all the traditional healers on board and move ahead.

Meanwhile, a doctor of the Ayush Department, said that this initiative will help streamline the traditional way of healing to a great extend.
