Ibrahim Ansari impersonated as an Assistant Area Manager at KFC, and deceived the victim.

After Assam, Meghalaya also seems to be in the grip of a well-organised network of fraudsters.

The State Police on Saturday arrested a 59-year-old man for allegedly defrauding an individual of over Rs 19 lakh through a fraudulent investment scheme.

The arrested scamster has been identified as Ibrahim Ansari, a resident of Jharkhand.

A complaint was lodged on August 12, 2024 at Rynjah Police Station, stating how Ansari, posing as an Assistant Area Manager at KFC, deceived the victim.

The fraud came to light after the victim realized the deception after a significant delay.

Following a thorough investigation, police arrested Ansari. An investigation is underway to identify any additional suspects involved in the scam.

Earlier in the month, one person in Garo Hills was defrauded of Rs 17,000 when money was siphoned off from him in the name of a politician from the area.

SP (Sadar), Pankaj Kumar Rasgania earlier told Northeast Live that a well-organised network of fraudsters have been calling people impersonating as political leaders, VIPs and even the Director General of Police and asking for money in the state.

Not just this, people of the state are losing crores of rupees in Ponzi scam, courier scam and other investment scams, SP (Sadar), Pankaj Kumar Rasgania added.
