Meghalaya NEC Employee Arrested on Charges of Sexually Assaulting 21-Year Old Co-Worker

In a shocking incident, an employee of the North Eastern Council (NEC) was arrested on Monday afternoon on charges of allegedly sexually assaulting a 21-year-old co-worker.

The arrest took place on Monday afternoon after a complaint was filed at the Laitumkhrah Police Station.

The accused has been identified as Shambhu Sharma.

Sources revealed that the incident occurred after the accused asked the victim to accompany him to a bank for work-related tasks, as she was assigned to assist him. Following the bank visit, Sharma allegedly took the victim to his quarter under the pretext of retrieving his tiffin. Once they arrived, he invited her inside and allegedly forced himself on her.

Following the complaint, Sharma was taken into custody and underwent a medical examination before being presented before a District and Sessions Court in Meghalaya on Tuesday.

Sharma charges under sections 127(2), 74, and 64(2)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including wrongful confinement, assault with intent to outrage a woman’s modesty, and rape.
Further investigation is underway.
