MDC Tura Bernard N Marak has urged Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to take immediate action to address the demands
In the wake of ongoing protests demanding the declaration of Tura as the Winter Capital, MDC Tura Bernard N Marak has urged Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to take immediate action to address the demands. Tura, the Chief Minister’s constituency, holds great significance for the people of Garo Hills, as they elected 16 MLAs, including Conrad Sangma, to represent their interests and aspirations.
Bernard Marak highlighted that Chief Minister Conrad Sangma’s election victory was a testament to his standing as a Garo Chief Minister, representing the National People’s Party (NPP), a party formed to champion the welfare of the Garo community in the national political arena. The late P A Sangma, a revered figure in Garo Hills, was known for his unwavering dedication to the Garo people, and his legacy continues to inspire the ideology of NPP.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had made a significant campaign promise of providing 5 lakh jobs for the youth of Meghalaya.
Bernard Marak awaits the fulfilment of this pledge, as it is seen as a crucial step towards securing the future and prosperity of the state’s young population.
The protests, which had stretched for 13 days, came to the attention of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, prompting him to meet with the protestors.
While the delayed response was acknowledged as “Better late than never”. The protestors, who had camped outside the CM’s Tura office, felt that the meeting should have taken place at the protest site to signify due respect to their cause.
Bernard Marak also clarified that the NPP considers the BJP as an opposition in Garo Hills, indicating that there is currently no alliance between the two parties in the region.
