The elections to the Garo Hills District Council (GHADC) will be held on April 9, 2021, the Meghalaya Cabinet announced on Thursday.
During a briefing, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong informed that publication of draft electoral roll will be on Feb 4, and counting will be held on April 14.
The last date for filing claims and objection will be on February 18. Disposal of claims and objections will be on March 1.
Tynsong added that once the notification for calling constituency to elect representative is done on March 8, the model code of conduct will be in placed to entire Garo Hills District Council jurisdiction.
The last date of filing nomination will be on March 15. The last date of scrutiny of nomination papers will be on March 15 and withdrawal on 19 March 2021.
Tynsong informed that the elections could cost around Rs 15 crore and COVID-19 protocols are one of the main reasons for the high expenditure.
It is to be mentioned that on October 12, 2020, the Meghalaya Cabinet decided to postpone the GHADC elections and impose Administrator’s rule in the Council. Meanwhile, the Administrator’s rule, which was imposed for a period of six months, will end on April, 2021.
