Meghalaya Games 2024 will be hosted in Tura for the first time

Games spirit has gripped Tura in Meghalaya as the much-anticipated 5th Meghalaya Games will be starting tomorrow at the Pa Togan Nengminja Sangma Athletics Stadium (Track & Field Stadium) in Tura, West Garo Hills district.

Notably, Meghalaya Games 2024 will be hosted in Tura for the first time.

Athletes from across the state have already arrived at the town to take part in the two-day games.

More than 3,000 athletes will compete in 22 disciplines.

Only the opening ceremony and the football tournament’s semifinal and championship games will be held in the main P A Sangma Stadium.

Rest of the athletics competitions for Meghalaya Games 2024 will be held at the Pa Togan Nengminja Sangma Athletics Stadium.

The 5th edition of Meghalaya Games will feature traditional games played by the indigenous Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo communities, for which the state government has allotted around Rs 23 crore.

The event is an opportunity for the athletes of the state to showcase their talent in the field of sports.

President Droupadi Murmu will inaugurate the event tomorrow. Notably, this would be Murmu’s maiden visit to Meghalaya as President.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Friday inspected the athletes’ accommodation at Tura Christian College. He spoke to them and wish them good luck for the games.

Taking to X, CM Sangma today said, “The Pa Togan Nengminja Sangma Athletics Stadium (Track & Field Stadium) in Tura will host all athletics competitions for #MeghalayaGames 2024. We are glad to complete the project on time to host athletes from across Meghalaya in Tura.”
