The election commission today announced the dates of the South Tura by-poll.

The by-election to South Tura assembly constituency from where Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma will contest will be held on August 23, said state chief electoral officer F R Kharkongor.

It is the same seat which National People’s Party MLA, Agatha Sangma had vacated earlier this month to pave way for her brother and the chief minister to contest from the seat.

Scrutiny of nomination papers will be taken up the next day. The last day of withdrawing of nominations is August 9; Kharkongor said adding that the results will be declared on August 27.
