Meghalaya: East Khasi Hills lockdown extended till June 7

As the state witnesses a steady rise in COVID-19 cases, the Meghalaya government on Friday decided to extend the ongoing total lockdown in East Khasi Hills till 5 am of June 7.

As the state witnesses a steady rise in COVID-19 cases, the Meghalaya government on Friday decided to extend the ongoing total lockdown in East Khasi Hills till 5 am of June 7.

However, few relaxations have been allowed, announced deputy CM Prestone Tynsong at a review meeting on Friday.

Earlier, the total lockdown in East Khasi Hills district was supposed to end on May 31.

As per the new directions, the deputy commissioner will ensure availability of essential commodities for different localities of the district as per their requirements.

Home delivery will be permitted subject to permission and regulation to be issued by the DC of East Khasi Hills district.

Inter-district movement of persons from and into the district shall be restricted. Also, all Central and state government offices, other than those already notified by the government, shall remain closed.

SBI’s main branch, Laitumkhrah branch and Secretariat branch shall function with limited staff only to finish government businesses or transactions.

All other banks are permitted to open on May 31 and June 1 with limited staff and close by 4 pm.

All post offices are allowed to open on June 2, 3 and 4 with limited staff. Also, E-commerce activities and courier services will be permitted subject to regulation by the DC.

Funeral gathering shall be restricted to 10 persons with prior permission from the DC.

Essential and health services including emergency and vaccination, pharmacy, medicines along with movement of essential commodities are exempted from the extended lockdown.
