The Congress and the NPP have emerged as front-runners in the district council polls in Khasi and Jaintia hills region of Meghalaya.

While the Congress has won 9 of the 29 seats in Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, the NPP is all set to form the next council in Jaintia Hills winning 11 seats.

Meanwhile, celebrations have erupted in Shillong with supporters of Congress and NPP taking to the streets.
