Meghalaya CM launches CM Elevate; prog to support 20,000 local entrepreneurs

In an effort to support the local entrepreneurs in the state, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday launched the “CM Elevate” programme at Tura in West Garo Hills, Meghalaya.

The CM-ELEVATE programme will support over 20,000 Entrepreneurs across Meghalaya for the next 5 years with an investment of Rs 300 Crore and a financial grant up to 75% to encourage the youth and aspiring entrepreneurs to take up businesses, informed Conrad Sangma.

He also encouraged the youth to take advantage of the programme and start business ventures that would create job opportunities and encourage entrepreneurship culture in the State.

Speaking at the launch, he said that the government through “Yess Meghalaya” has given support to youth in the State to initiate various activities that educates and empower our youth, and so far it has supported over 1000 groups in the last one year and more groups from the State will be provided financial assistance.

He further informed that Meghalaya Grassroot Music Programme (MGMP) has supported over 1500 artists in the past one year and we have been able to engage and leverage the talent of our artists.

He announced that from this year under the MGMP, the Government will promote and support drama, folklore etc that aims to showcase the diverse culture and tradition of Meghalaya.

Talking further about promoting entrepreneurship, he spoke about the “PRIME” program, through which financial support was extended to the youth. He said that in the past year, over Rs 30 crore has been released to the community for the protection of forest cover. He said that the government has envisaged covering about 50,000 hectares under the programs.

During the program, Rs 1.05 crore was distributed to beneficiaries of village organizations under the community investment fund and Rs 60,98,595 under payment for ecosystem services.
Also under Yess Meghalaya, 9,30,00 was given as the first tranche to beneficiaries and 1,40,00 as the second tranche to beneficiaries.
