Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma announces Rs 4 Lakh ex-gratia to landslide victims’ family

At least four members of a family including two minors were buried alive when house collapsed after a massive landslide at Pynthorlangtein area.

Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma on Monday announced ex-gratia amount of Rs 4 lakh each of next kin to the family who died in recent landslide in the state.

At least four members of a family including two minors were buried alive when their house collapsed after a massive landslide at Pynthorlangtein area in West Jaintia Hills on Sunday.

Chief Minister Sangma took ‘X’ (Formerly known as Twitter) to announce the information. He wrote, “Heartbreaking that a family of 4 lost their lives in a mudslide in Pynthor Langtein, West Jaintia Hills District due to incessant rainfall.”

 “Have directed the release of ex gratia amount of Rs. 4 Lakhs to the next of kin of each of the deceased. We are doing everything to ensure the safety of our citizens during this time. I extend my deepest condolences to their loved ones”, Conrad added.

As per inputs, their house was partially buried by mud and debris, causing damage to the structure following the landslide triggered by incessant rain in the area for past few days.

All four people were trapped under the debris. Later, rescue teams rushed to the spot and pulled them out of the rubble. They all died on the spot.

The deceased persons have been identified as– Biangki Phawa (29), his wife Pynjanai Ryngkhlem (25) and two infants.
