Mawrie said that the central leadership is in sync with the demand of the State BJP for an independent probe into the arrest of Marak.

Meghalaya BJP president Ernest Mawrie has claimed that the central leadership of the party has backed the state unit in its demand for an independent probe into the alleged prostitution racket case involving Tura MDC Bernard Marak.

Mawrie who has just returned from Delhi said that the central leadership is in sync with the demand of the State BJP for an independent probe into the arrest of Marak.

Mawrie once again indicated that the matter is politically motivated.

On Chief Minister Conrad Sangma ruling out an independent probe, Mawrie said that everybody has their own opinion but the BJP sticks to its demand.

He pointed out that the manner in which the raid was conducted on Rimpu Bagan owned by Marak, raises several questions.

He informed that the protest of the BJP will continue.

Meanwhile, Bernard Marak was sent to 6-day police custody. Marak is already in 14-day judicial custody in connection with an alleged prostitution racket case that was being run from his farmhouse.

It may be mentioned that Bernard Marak was arrested again in connection with the recovery of explosives from his farmhouse and is booked under the explosive substances act.
