Mawrie also stated that it would recommend central party leaders to maintain the same strategy of going solo that was used in the just concluded assembly elections

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Meghalaya is keen to contest both the Shillong parliamentary seat and the Tura parliamentary seat in the Lok Sabha elections scheduled to be held next year and is confident of winning both seats.

Talking exclusively to Northeast Live, Meghalaya BJP president Earnest Mawrie said that the state party unit is keen to contest both Shillong and Tura seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and soon it will recommend its decision to the BJP central leaders.

Mawrie also stated that it would recommend central party leaders to maintain the same strategy of going solo that was used in the just concluded assembly elections.

When asked with how many seats, BJP will go solo? Mawrie said that a decision on it will be taken by the central leadership.

“There are a total of 25 MP seats in the Northeast. BJP has taken very serious steps and we are working hard to win all the 25 seats. We have 36 constituencies in Shillong and 26 in Tura. From now onwards we will have serial meetings in each Lok Sabha constituency and meet the people and interact with them. There is already a team of central leaders who will also visit the state,” Mawrie added.

Earnest Mawrie said that though the tally remained the same at 2, the analysis of previous elections has shown that the vote share of the BJP has increased. The people of Meghalaya want a change and the change is BJP and hence the party has got prospects to win both the seats if the party goes solo in Lok Sabha polls.
