The HYC feels that the impact on tourism if any can be taken care of by applying technology to implement ILP
Meghalaya pressure group Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has sought response from Chief Minister Conrad Sangma over alleged Centre’s delay in implementing Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state.
HYC President Robert June Kharjahrin speaking to Northeast Live said, “Meeting with the Prime Minister, Home Minister have been held several times but there is concrete outcome again. We want to know on what aspect of ILP the Prime Minister, Home Minister is examining. Is it from the law perspective, or whether it will affect tourism. What aspect the Centre is examining. We would like to know from the Chief Minister as to what are the areas of concern that the Centre has.”
Speaking from the tourism perspective, the HYC president said, “When it comes to the speculation that the ILP will affect tourism we have already given our opinion that with the help of technology it can be taken care of. If we go to Arunachal Pradesh we dont need to stand in queue or go for applying ILP, we can also apply electronic ILP or E-ILP. It takes only 2 minutes.”
“So many cases have already been challenged before the various High Courts and Supreme Court on ILP and the courts have always upheld the ILP. So there is no issue whatsoever on legal aspect, it is very clear that it can be done,” Kharjahrin added.
