The Meghalaya Democratic Alliance has constituted a sub-committee to decide on a common MDA candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.
This decision was taken in a meeting held in the state capital on Thursday.
Talking to newsmen, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that they have decided that MDA will be united and will only have one candidate for the post.
He said in order to facilitate this, a sub-committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong.
Informing that the different political parties will have their individual meeting in the next 2-3 days, Conrad said this reflected the kind of participatory democracy and coalition governance.
He however, refused to give out the names of the proposed candidates stating that it will be disclosed when the time is right.
The election to the lone Rajya Sabha seat in Meghalaya will be held alongside with other 54 seats on March 26.
