Manisha, Eliza defy all odds to give ‘recognition to love’

First Published: 12th May, 2023 18:11 IST

Committed for a strong and health relationship, Manisha spoke her heart out as she explained as to what is the story so far.

Manisha Rabha, a resident of Hengrabari in Guwahati and Eliza Ahmed, who lives at Nagarbera in Assam’s Kamrup district, have a ‘Reality’ in the making. But for that both of them definitely had to overcome many obstacles only for the sake of love and trust that they have for each other.

In fact they have already decided that they cannot part ways and recognize their relationship although they belong to the same sex. Both Manisha and Eliza defying all odds have decided to go for marriage, but in the meantime are putting thoughts together on certain factors to make this a reality.

Committed for a strong and health relationship, Manisha spoke her heart out as she explained as to what is the story so far. She said,”I met her (Eliza) almost 5 years ago, but that moment we had no relation or a kind of love relationship. AS a friend we had good relationship and it improved as days passed by. We then began to understand each other. After that we decided it will be right to enter into a relationship. Our adjustment is nice.”

While feeling quite happy and secured as far as her relationship with Eliza is concecrned, Manisha stated,”We thought that it will be right to recognize our relationship and name it just like it is done in the case of legal relationship. It will take time for us to marry since we have to be economically sound, but at present it is not so. Till we become economically sound we will definitely think of marriage.”

As of now both of them are engaged and the ‘Ring Ceremony’ was celebrated on May 9th.

Revealing further as to how good times turned into a realtionship, Manisha said,”I met her 5 years ago in Guwahati when she was pursuing her nursing course. She is a good friend of my younger sister. When she came to meet my sister, I met her.

She used to visit our place, stay sometimes for a day or two, and eventually our relationship grew. We will do court marriage, now the law has given its recognition (refers to Supreme Court), but for marriage it will take another year or two.”

Eliza too seemed to be overwhelmed with her relationship with Manisha.

It was a moment full of emotions when Eliza said,”I am very happy and excited. We will be together for ever.
When I met her for the first time, I said that I liked her but did not had the guts to express my feelings clearly. Recently, it is a matter of 1 and a half year ago that I could convey my sentiments when we met at her house. As we talked our relationship grew.”

Eliza believes that the relationship would be an everlasting one and said,”We have a great sense of understanding and we have lot of similarities. Everyone does not dare to express just the way we did, but its no use if I can’t express my feelings and instead live in agony. So it better to make everything public.”

Worth mentioning, the Supreme Court on Thursday reserved its verdict on a batch of petitions seeking right to marriage for members of the LGBTQIA+ community under the Special Marriage Act, 1954, which faced stiff Opposition from the Centre and state governments, while dropping broad hints that it could consider issuing a constitutional declaration for same sex couples that may fall short of giving marriage rights to them.
