Khanthang Tonsing who is a prospective candidate from the Thanlon constituency for the forthcoming Manipur Assembly Elections stated that individual candidates matter more than the party in the upcoming electoral battles.

Notably, Khanthang Tonsing is the son of Congress veteran Late Phungzathang Tonsing who was a member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly for more than 3 decades.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Tonsing said that he has been offered party tickets by the Congress as well as the National People’s Party (NPP) for the forthcoming Assembly Elections in the state.

He further stated that Meghalaya Chief Minister and NPP President Conrad Sangma is a good friend of his.

However, Khanthang Tonsing stated it is always good to go with the ruling party as a position in the opposition party only provides a limited power for carrying out developmental works.

Assembly elections in Manipur for a total of 60 Assembly constituencies will be held in two phases. Voting for the first phase will be held on February 27 while voting for the second phase will be on March 3.

The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
