Manipuri classic ‘Ishanou’ returns to Cannes after three decades

Renowned Manipuri filmmaker, Aribam Syam Sharma’s 1990 film, ‘Ishanou’ returns to the Cannes Film Festival after three decades, this time for the world premiere of the classic.

The Manipuri film was restored by the Film Heritage Foundation and will be screened under the Cannes Classics section. ‘Ishanou’ is the official entry at the Classics Section of the Festival de Cannes 2023. A proud moment for Manipuri cinema to have contributed to the glorious legacy of Indian Cinema on the world stage. Yesterday, Manipuri Actor Kangabam Tomba, the male protagonist of Ishanou, walked the Cannes red carpet representing Indian actors along with Minister of State L. Murugan and Oscar-winning Indian documentary filmmaker Guneet Monga.
