The BJP-led ruling alliance in Manipur headed by Chief Minister N Biren Singh clearly wants a more proactive and understanding role of the Centre in dealing with the situation in the state.
Team Biren Singh has made several forceful pleas before Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya, prime among which is the demand for handing over charge of the Unified Command to the state government for effective handling of the law and order situation, sources said.
CM Biren Singh handed over a memorandum to the Governor during his meeting yesterday along with several ministers and ruling alliance MLAs.
The memorandum also reiterated the demand for abrogation of the SoO agreement with the Kuki rebel groups under the banner of the KNO and the UDF.
In a way, the state leadership wants the centre to appreciate the situation in Manipur that escalated during the past week.
Besides, the Governor has been urged to ensure that Manipur’s territorial integrity remains intact and there is no separate administration created anywhere.
Team Biren Singh also wanted the ban on the free movement regime with Myanmar to be implemented more strictly and demanded completion of the border fencing along Myanmar.
Another important demand placed by the state leadership is the preparation of an NRC in Manipur with 1961 as the base year and detection and deportation of illegal migrants.
