Manipur University impasse: Students storm Raj Bhavan; Police resort to lathi-charge

The Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur on Monday staged protest outside Raj Bhavan demanding an immediate end to the current impasse in the Manipur University.

Police resorted to lathi charge when the student protesters tried to storm into the Raj Bhawan demanding an immediate end to the current Manipur university impasse.

Several students were injured in the ensuing lathi-charge. The protesting students tried to break open the Raj Bhavan gate prompting the cops to swing into action.

The Manipur University protests entered its 48th day today with the students and teachers bodies in the varsity demanding the ouster of Vice chancellor A P Pandey.

Meanwhile, the protesting students also tried to barge into the Manipur state BJP office to stage their demand but were confronted by police who also resorted to manhandling the student protesters.

The students tried to break open the gate of the state BJP office forcing the police to intervene. Policemen swelled in the area as the situation got out of control.

Meanwhile, taking strong exception to the alleged police brutality in Imphal today, the Manipur University Students Union along with the Manipur University Teachers Association and the Manipur University Student’s Association adopted a resolution to demand a magisterial enquiry into the incident.
