Sensation prevailed for hours in and around the JNIMS Hospital in Manipur after an undertrial prisoner escaped from police custody. The incident took place when the undertrial accused identified as 21-year old Ningthoujam Gandharaj was brought for a health check-up at the JNIMS hospital.
The incident occurred at around 11AM today when Ghandaraj escaped from JNIMS Hospital Emergency Casualty Toilet. Personnel of 7th Manipur Rifles and Police deployed at JNIMS ran after him but the accused managed to hide himself for some time.
Top police officers and additional police personnel rushed to the site and started an intense hunt for the prisoner in the hospital premises. Police finally traced his footprints near a wall inside Imphal East District SP Complex in Porompat and arrested him.
