Scribes in Manipur staged a 48-hour long sit-in demonstration at the Manipur Press Club, Imphal on Saturday in protest against the suspected militant threat to a local vernacular daily not to publish newspapers for six months.

Extending solidarity with the protesting scribes, members of civil society organizations also joined the sit-in protest, which was jointly organized by the All Manipur Working Journalist Union and Editors Guild of Manipur vehemently condemning the threats to press.

Condemning the February 13 bomb attack at Poknapham media house, the All Manipur Working Journalist Union and Editors Guild of Manipur said that it is very unfortunate that both the Government and the police have failed to identify and arrest the person who lobbed the hand grenade inside the office premises.

The media fraternity is now demanding clarification as well as immediate arrest of the perpetrators.
