Manipur Railway Connectivity: Key tunnel completed in Jiri-Imphal Line

This tunnel will connect the hills to the Imphal valley and is most critical for the completion of the Tupul-Imphal section.
Significant progress has been achieved in the work for the Jiribam-Imphal railway line. In a big breakthrough in the railway project, the excavation work for the 8.3 km long safety tunnel of the main tunnel number 12 has been completed.
The main Tunnel-12 will have a total length of 10.275Km and will be the longest Tunnel of NF Railway.
This tunnel will connect the hills to the Imphal valley and is most critical for the completion of the Tupul-Imphal section.
Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Education, Rajkumar Ranjan Singh who visited Saheibung village in Kangpokpi district today to congratulate the railway workers on the achievement said that the government targets to bring Imphal on the railway map by end of this year.
Union Minister RK Ranjan also said that goods trains can already go up to Khongshang railway station and appealed to traders to use the railway service.
Meanwhile, Union Minister RK Ranjan added that survey work and technical feasibility for the Imphal-Moreh rail line are also complete. He added that the recent Marangching landslide is not connected to railway work and has been caused due to heavy rainfall.
