NPP has called for additional security for its candidates in Manipur after last night’s incident of pre-poll violence where the father of the party’s Andro Assembly constituency candidate was shot at.

Shamjai Singh, father of NPP candidate L. Sanjoy Singh was shot at by unidentified assailants last night when he was out campaigning for his son at Yaripok Yambeem Leikai.
While the elderly man was immediately rushed to Shiza hospital and while his condition is now stable, NPP national president and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma have taken strong exception to the incident.

Sangma called upon the Election Commission to step up the security of vulnerable candidates even as he called for hyper-sensitive constituencies for better security cover.
Sangma also said that maintenance of law and order was a must for free and fair elections.
